Why are more businesses not claiming the free government money for EV chargers?

Yes - you read that right - FREE MONEY from the Office of Zero Emmissions Vehicles.

When I explained how the grant scheme worked to one of my prospective customers - he said that he simply didn't believe what I was saying and if this was not some sort of scam - then why had he not heard about it?

My reply was that I would put my money where my mouth was - I sent him a quotation as I had promised which showed that once the VAT had been claimed back - he would have 2 working chargers and a further 4 EV ready parking bays for just a few hundred pounds.

4 weeks later - he had his chargers - at the cost I had stated and we were paid directly by OZEV for the grant claimed - no scam, no catches just a really simple grant from the government.

So - would you be eligable and how does it work?

The most generous grant is called the Electric Vehicle Infrastucture Grant for Staff and Fleet.

You will be a Small to Medium sized Enterprise (SME) meaning that you will have 250 or fewer employees. You will also need to have at least 5 car parking spaces at your business premises that are for your staff or fleet vehicles.*

Thats pretty much it - you don't even need to have any Electric Vehicles belonging to the company or your staff - this grant is to encourage the uptake of EV's - helping drive down CO2 emmissions and acheive the governments NET zero target.

You need to use an OZEV authorised installer like us at EV Electrical as you need the installer number when filling out a very simple online form - but apart from that - we do everything else for you.

The grant offers £500 per EV ready parking bay and a further £350 for every live charger (up to 75% of the gross value of the project and up to £15,000). There must be at least 5 parking bays enabled and at least 1 live charger.
